you could get a reverse mounted pedal setup that should fit under the dash
then just mount the resevoir remotely in the engine bay
resevoir doesnt have to stay under the dash

im running a d50 trans with a 4.3 rear at the moment and for me its a bit too rev happy

1st is almost non existent

hoping that the w58 i have here is going to sort it out a bit and maybe even need to go to a 4.1 or even a 3.9?

cheers bill thats guna be really helpfull info for people when selecting what style shifter they need to match there stock setup

unfortunately i fall in the middle of the 18" and 20" shifter position

so guna have to decide 1 inch forward or 1 inch back :lol:

are the awd and fwd 4g63 6 bolt flywheels the same?

as im sure alot of you know we need a fwd for bills w5x adapter, but if the 4wd ones are the same then i can get a nice aftermarket lightweight billet jobby

as im aware both run the same clutch setup??

mass production of something like this would be difficult due to the slight variations in all of the rwd setups (most use a custom ex manifold) and all so the shells that the setups are being put into are not the same therefore you cannot gurantee clearence etc

sounds reasonable, maybe a little steep but not hugely

bear in mind driveshafts have to be a one peice unit so the simply cant just tack 3 inches on to the tube shaft

a whole new shaft must be made for it

i know the jza80 supras have the biggest exstension housing, it is a cantilever style one which ends up having the shifter about 20cm back off the end of the gearbox

heres a pic of all the shifter styles

top row is w50 bottom row w55-58

my d50 has held up at 300rwhp for a good 6+ months now which has included regular street use and half a dozen trips to the track and a track day all wearing semi slicks and its still going stron

i believe some of the earlier W5x gearboxes had alloy plates
they are still the same just alloy sandwhich rather than steel
some people say that makes them alittle less strong others say its negligable

how does the water flow around a stock 4g63 when the thermostat is closed?
does one of the four water pipes coming out of the thermostat housing allow water to bypass it back into the rear of the water pump when the thermostat is closed?but the thermostat opening off blocks this bypass ...

cheers guys put it all in 2nite and it works well :D

extentuates my shifting problem tho but im now sure its a selector issue with the gearbox, which allows me to push to far to the left so can miss the gate for 2nd and 1st

i got started today

made up a spacer plate one inch thick and then cut my shifter just above that sqaure peice as i think it is for the gate

i made up an insert also an inch long with spigoted ends and then drilled 1/4 inch holes into the two ends of the stick, this should give it heaps more ...

ive just been down playing round with my gearstick and working out what im going to do

at the moment the throw is roughly 100mm stock for a 3-4 shift


now looking at things i think im going to go with a spacer which is basically just a copy of this plate here

ok im going to try and make a short shifter out of my stick by chopping the lower ball off and extending it then packing the top mounting point

i think that would w2ork with my gbox as is as the shifters are the same i believe?

cant change the tailhousing tho as then my shifter would be too far back

im finally out racing my car and have noticed the d50 trans is a bit of a pig to shift, and im losing time cos of it
any thing out there i can do to help reduce my shifting times

yea its a cable clutch
i dont think it is the cable thoug as its the smae one the car has had since 1981 and the pressure plate ive put in isnt that heavy (less heavy than previous one)
and its done it since the very first gear change

hmmm

i managed to get it into 2nd a couple of times the other night
even if i double clutch blip the accelerator or try and match the gears it doesnt make a differeence then a couple of times it randomly went in

when it goes in it goes in perfect no grinding or anything


how hard is it to check ...

Your 2l starion motor is wideblock

The vr4 motor is narrow block

so as dj suggested you can either keep your gbox ...

hey guys the d50 behing my 4g63 is a real pain to select 2nd

it flat out refuses to go down from 3rd to 2nd and sometimes on the upshift, usually if your rough with it or give it a hiding it 1
it doeesnt grind or crunch just feels like its hitting a "rubber" wall
if im stoped i can pop it in ...

yea oil amount is correct just under 5l and the engine was completely dry no oil in anything or oil cooler/lines, sump quantity is just shy of 4 litres correct?so 5 should be right to fill the cooler and lines

what have all you other guys done?surely sumone else has had this issue too?

i just used the vr4(transverse) oilpan and dipstick, car never had a rwd 4g in it so didnt even think of using one

am i best to change to a rwd oil pan and dipstick?just worried about where that oil is actually sitting in the sump etc

i filled my engine up with 5l of oil today(as oil cooler/lines etc are empty)
and before i even turned the engine over to prime it etc i checked the level and its only about 1/2 way between the two marks

I figure I will toss this out. THe cyclone intake doesnt flow very good. There was a flow test article on a dsm board a long time ago testing flow numbers. Seems like the 6inch tapered runners flowed best. The cyclone flowed worse than the stock one if I remember right. But better for the low end ...

hey guys was tightening up my exhaust manifold and ended up stripping one of the studs off from inside the head, it just popped out with the nut on it lol

wats my best option retap the head a size bigger (its a custom manifold so i can just drill the hole in it bigger to suit the bolt) or drill it ...

ok ive heard of people having problems where the water in the head is boiling before the thermostat opens as it hasnt conducted the heat well enough

only going by what ive heard

my thermo housing is right up the front under the inlet manifold/throttle body (still using rear exit so pipe runs along ...

thatsa good idea :D

holes isnt for the air being trapped is to do with the water not heating up in the line well enough but if the hole will help with air trapped in that it will help the air flow through ill give it a try should kill t2o birds with one stone then :D

its going horizontal round the back of the head then under the inlet manifold then to the factory thermohousing which im mounting off the front of the inlet manifold below the throttle body and then up to the top radiator hose

not sure at this stage

the dumppipe and exhaust manifold will both be getting heat wrapped

i may ceramic coat the exhaust turbine hosuing too which should elimintae most problems, but may just leave it as is and see what happens

if not will just make a little sheild

very common to do this even on evos/vr4s/gsr swpapping to bigger turbos in the td05 range
