4g63 Swap stuff: Chassis, Engine, Tranny and more!

Long story short, about 4 years ago I bought a black 86 Widebody, a galant VR4 JDM frontclip, and a W55 transmission (could be a W54? I can go find a model number on it if necessary) with a bellhousing modified to fit a 4g63, and never did a damn thing with any of it, LOL. Too busy, ran out of money ...

Selling a brand-new never-used Willwood Pull-Type Slave Cylinder thats required when you go with the D50 transmission. Summit has it for $65.99. I'll let it go for $60 shipped to the lower 48 states. I beleive Summit adds $7 for shipping and handling, so this saves ya about $13 :-P.

I posted on DSM Tuners and finally got an answer... I guess the Evo VIII head has a slightly different bolt pattern than the DSM's, so the manifold will not bolt right on.

Actually Scott Oldham has a pic of his new Starion he bought, and he mentions dropping in a 4g63 when he blows up his engine, but thats pretty much it... article did mention starquestclub though.

Hey, those measurements on that manifold are:


From head-mating surface to the Fender-side of the plenum: 9 inches ( and remember this sits STRAIGHT off the head, not curving up like the stocker)
Length of plenum: 17 inches

Okay let me make sure I got it straight what you guys are saying. The DSM and Truck flywheel/clutch combos are of different depth (it seems), therefore you must remove slack from the TOB by adjusting the slave cylinder's "Start point" to pull the "clutch arm" forward?

Well, regarding the clutches, you guys (DJPowerhaus and 89onaquest) both used D50 trannies, but one of you used an AWD DSM clutch and the other had to use a D50 clutch. Can you guys get some model numbers off those trannies so we can compare which is which?

I ended up going ahead with the Forrester Racing Heads manifold. It is designed so you can just flip the plenum around, and in the mid 300hp's, dynos at 35-40hp with a 16g. Up next, 264 cams! :D

Well you still need a transmission,have the drive shaft lengthened, and if you can't weld alluminum, have the stock manifold chopped & welded. Other than that, theres not much else as far as costs go, assuming nothing else needs maintenance and you keep everything stock. Atleast... I think... ;)

Yeah, thats exactly what I figured was the problem, since DJPowerhause seemed to have hardly any clearance, but his is modified... what did he do anyway?

Or maybe you can turn the thing around and bolt it on the other way (not sure if this is possible, not at home and can't look at the car)?

One thing I don't understand about the adapter plates when moving the engine for is the fact taht your bolt holes on each side are now raised by the thickness of the plates... I would think that would cause fitment issues. Though you did say you had to muscle things around a bit.

Yeah, its an AWD tranny, but if you're wanting to compare the the 3.0L 6g72 bolt pattern to the 4g63 bell housing, then that would probably help out. I have a 4g63 sitting in my garage too, but its all still in a front clip. I also wonder if the starion tranny will bolt up to the 6g72 (though I bet ...
