I'm comfortably in my mid 40s, all cars gone, and only a Sprinter van remains. I'll post about it on the ...

WELCOME BACK! - Forum is back after 6 years!

In late December 2019 this forum was shut down after 6 months of really bad spam making it nearly unusable. Today it's back!

VSS is a pulse signal output that comes from the cluster (speedometer) in the Starion. Pretty sure there is no sensor on the trans for VSS.

Narrow block transmission options are more plentiful now than when this site was started so the need for a wideblock is less preferred now. Get a Billhousing from Bill Hincher and a narrow block and you'll be fine.

You are correct in that the DSM harness will connect the ECU to the motor, but it does not hook into the chassis so that it gets power from the correct fused sources and the signals go to the right connectors for the gauges and warning lights to all function as if it were a stock swap.

Narrow and wideblook 4G6x mounts are the same, but 2.6L G54B mounts are different. I doubt there is an OEM bracket that would let you bolt it in. Moving it forward seals the deal I think. You'll need to make your own brackets.

Also, the B2600 Bellhousing on the RX7 transmission in the RX7 will tilt the block to the exhaust side by several degrees. Not a bad thing really, puts the turbo lower making the downpipe routing easier. Might need to do a top mount turbo though.
