4g63 DOHC RWD in China

Post by Silverjoel »

It appears the Great Wall Haval H3 (a Chinese vehicle) uses a 4g63 DOHC in RWD.

It is just difficult to get a lot of information on it, but if someone here is in or around China, you would probably have a better chance of learning more. It would be nice to know how it is set up and what parts are available.

Neat. I never heard about this.

Looks like the H3 has a 4G64 and has a RWD option. The H5 (X240) has a 4G63 or 4G69.

I'd like to learn more. What kinds of transmissions do these use? What DOHC head? Neat stuff.

Can't read most stuff I'm finding. I imagine the 4G64 and 4G69 stuff is different. One transmission looks to have a detachable bellhousing, the other seems integrated.

There is some speculation that the transmission is a Toyota r154. It's pretty rough trying to figure out the info. Australia has the V240, so someone over there could help with some of it. I'd also be interested in finding out more about the steering setup.

Whats the use in buying one of these gearboxes when you know that are proudly made in .......China.
It might resemble to an r154 but it would never be one.I don't think that any of us believe that the china gearbox would be nearly as strong as a Toyota one.
Taking into account the size and its weight,i personally think that it would cost a fortune to get to our door and i dont even take into consideration customs surcharges.
If it was a V160 replica ,i wouldn,t mind though lol lol

China makes half the stuff we use, including the good stuff. That said, I bet a Toyota transmission would outlast a Great Wall transmission. My hope is that they copied a decent Toyota transmission to the degree that you can bolt a legit Toyota part to the bellhousing.

I noticed in the photo above that the 2 bottom bellhousing bolts don't line up. What does this mean? Is this a Evo generation bolt pattern?

From which side you mean?
The side bolting to the gearbox or the block one?
If it's from the block side then no,it's not from an evo from what i can tell because evo use a narrower bolt pattern. If you can see the two upper bolt are wider which probably is the rwd and with only those, the starter bolts and the bolts from the aligning pins ,you can mount the trans to your block.Nomatter how holes there are around.
Another clue that it probably is the wideblock pattern is that from the pics you can understand that the engines are 8 valve ones, copying the early 4g63's and 4g64's.
We maybe using most of our stuff from China, but there qualities and there are qualities. The gears or the trans itself (or whatever else that's china makes)
may resemble but it depends on the quality of the primary material used to manufacture it.
And i really don't think by the price of the whole car that can even come close to what Toyota for instance has made
