PZG!
I'm new to this group and really excited. A little back ground, I love subarus, mitsubitchis, cummins, am a marine engineer and huge auto enthusiast. I love to tinker which brings me to why I am here right meow!
I have a 1995 Mitsubish Eclipse RS (yes sadly its the lamest submodel) that I got when I was 15 years old. When I got the car it was a heaping pile of %$#@. I suppose essentially it still is but I fixed it up all on my own from barely running and put 100k miles on the car just through highschool alone (about 2.5 years). I have so many memories in that car and have put it through the ringer essentially and it has never let me down. The car has taught me so much and essentially got me started into the mechanical mindset and fields which i delve in today. My attachment to the car is far greater than its worthlessness..........if that makes sense haha.
I want to ressurent that poor old eclipse. I know it essentially is worthless in value and the 420A engine in it probably should have blown up years ago (pretty sure its got close to 350k on the clock). I'm sure others have maybe done what I am thinking and if they have hopefully yall will forgive me for asking repetious questions but I am looking for thoughts, wisdom, ideas, experience, etc etc with this sort of transformation. I'm leaning towards getting a 6bolt 4g63, building that puppy up myself, and then coupling that to a sturdy tranny for RWD. Now the obvious fun is going to be lots of fabrication work and such which i LOVE. Wondering what tranny would be best. I was thinking about running off with one of Bills awesome bell housing conversions and utilizing a T56. My end goal if possible would be to create a 400 to maybe 500 whp 2g eclipse. Curious what yalls input is. What have ppl used for rear diffs when converting the FWD junkers??? I'm sure i could come up with a million more questions but i will at least start there. Thanks in advance!
Swap thoughts for my 2G

Just remember that the 6 bolt motor was designed 40 years ago and even the DOHC version is nearing 30 with the last ones produced over 20 years ago.
Are you sure you want to put all this work into such a dinosaur?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
Well, I mean I have no issue throwing the 7bolt 4g63 in. I guess for some reason I had it in my head that the 6 bolt was more reliable. I used to always hear horror stories about crank walk on the 7s. So I'll do a 7 bolt. I guess regardless of power plant I am wanting to make something of my old eclipse and rwd and boost makes sense. I was going to attempt dropping my sti engine in it but that's going in my truck instead haha. Also after doing some reads, the T56 has a good reputation for being tough but would I be better of with the r134 tranny or the w58?? I'm just wondering which has the best reputation and feel. I enjoy notchy feel and throw.
