i would like more info on this also.

picked up a 3.55 final drive diff (w/ locker) for my 87 ram 50 w/ 3.90 rear. but with that lousy .86 5th gear o/d ratio the final drive will still be kinda high at 3.05:1. many auto and stick overdrive gears are around .7. kinda crazy when i can tow 1500 lbs of ...

i hear you can get a 3.55 or a 3.308 rear gear from the 3000gt vr4 (awd) if you find yourself wanting a softer final drive for better highway driving (and to keep it on the road when that 2.4 puts down all that low end torque).

i think your truck is really sharp looking appearance wise, although i ...

what color is the block? it looks like hemi orange....which would be a good choice on an old mopar. if it was a 2.6 instead of a 2.3 stroker you could call it a "hemi" like with the old k cars with the 2.6. a 4 cylinder pushing 500+ hp is not gonna be as bulletproof as those nearly indestructible ...

weaker....that is debatable.....

there are plenty of arguments as to the pros and cons of each. the general consensus is that the saginaw is plenty stout for most uses. my 3/4 ton truck came with one from the factory so it can't be that bad. according to my research, the saginaw was the HD trans for chevy trucks back then.

i can ...

i don't have any recent pictures of my project. my 86 wagon won't impress the import guys (until i blow their doors off). it is going to be a regular 8 valve 2.5 T1 with a the garret turbo and intercooler setup from an 89 daytona T2 2.2 car, plus bolt in brake and chassis upgrades....the best mopar ...

weak saginaw you say?

my understanding is the saginaw was the more rugged trans (muncie was the weaker unit?). i have a 3 on the tree shifted unit in my 72 chevy suburban c20 and i just picked up a 66-69 era unit with the borg warner r10 overdrive on the back in place of the tail housing so i can do a factory style bolt ...

my 2 cents......

and i thought you guys were putting mitsu 4 bangers in some interesting applications...now i've heard it all.

personally, if i wanted to build a somewhat practical lotus replicar, i'd use the 16 valve 2.2 out a spirit or daytona r/t (and put the 2.5 crankshaft in it). my opinion is the dodge 2.2/2 ...

don't go 2.0......leave that nice 2.4 in there

you got the right power plant.....try softening the final drive ratio a tad and it will be more daily driver friendly. you have plenty of power and the long stroke / power band range of the 2.4 is good for a softer rear axle gear.

honda-like high revving may seem cool and all the rage in the tuner ...

swap 6 bolt crank in place of 7 bolt crank?

hey gang....

i was wondering if it was possible to use a (more plentiful) mitsu car 2.4 with the 7 bolt crank and swap in a 6 bolt 2.4 crank so i can use it in my 87 ram 50 and keep the original narrow bell-housing trans. i figure it would be best to use the ram50 2.4 intake/fuel injection system ...

that is bull.....

a 700r4 will be fine behind a high output engine provided you don't abuse it. they were built for full size trucks with v8's pulling big trailers, so a mini truck with a 4 banger is gonna have a lot of trouble developing enough torque to exceed their rated capacity. my dad put a 406 small block ...

v6 4x4 5spd trans - convert to 2wd?

i hear all v6 5spd's were 4x4 but i was wondering if you could use the 2wd extension housing (tail housing) in place of the piece that mates to the transfer case.

i know this is primarily a 4 banger forum, but it is perhaps the best mitsu rwd site around and this would be a really neat alternative ...

crazy ideas....

a couple ideas i had for my 87 ram 50.

i was thinking of scabbing in the entire rear chassis from a 2nd gen montero with the trailing arm setup, sway bar, track bar and disc brakes in place of the ugly stock setup and using a conquest/starion 3.55 third member with lsd...

....but i was thinking ...

only 2.4's with the narrow block were in some of the very early 90's mitsu cars. also, 2.4's had a 7 bolt crank by 1994 so it would be best to save yourself the trouble and just swap the engine and trans as a unit. everyone knows it is best to just get all the parts you need from one donor vehicle ...

i'd love to put that drive train in my 87 ram 50 2.0 5spd. i want more truck worthy low end torque than that short stroke 2.0 can provide and i believe the montero 2.4 was a dual cam engine with like 150 hp on 87 octane.

Remarque....where are you located? i'm in maine about an hour north of boston ...
