As far as that flange adapter goes, all you need to do is go to emachineshop.com and make a CAD drawing of it. They'll machine it and send it out to you.

I've never used their service before, but it seems incredibly convenient for parts like this.

emachineshop.com says they do castings. They even list engine blocks as an example. You would have to download their software (free) and design it yourself. I have no idea what their prices are like, but if they are reasonable, then it's probably the best bet for a top-mount cast manifold.

Like DJ said, I'm pretty sure solid lifters would be a must above around 9k. That would be my biggest concern. I also think the stock-sized valves would probably work better, as with high rpms, velocity is the name of the game.

As far as cams go, I'm not sure whether the solid lifters would require ...

Is the RX-7 tranny a TII tranny? Because even if you wanted to use the weak N/A tranny, the bellhousing isn't detachable like the TII tranny.

DJ, what kind of cams do you have?

I agree with Leon. The "X" cams are supposed to have really aggressive ramp profiles. If FP says they require them, then I believe them. They aren't the type of people to suggest unneeded parts.

Ah, I get it. So you are saying to block the holes but not completely, and thus drilling a small hole through the allen screw. I understand now, the reduction in flow through the holes will cause coolant flow to be reversed through the head.

What about expansion of the different metals? Wouldn't the aluminum head and steel allen screw create issues when the engine warmed up?

I don't quite follow what you mean by "drill a small hole through the allen bolt so no air pockets form."

Yeah, "FB" isn't really a factory code, it's just a common moniker for the car (only in North America, where a shorter code was needed for the VIN). The real code for the first gen RX-7 is SA22C (probably to do with the "Savanna" brand that Mazda sold them as).

Right, but the difference will probably be negligible unless he bores and/or sleeves the block to get some significant increase. And if he's running the larger 1g ports, I think he might be better off with the smaller bore.

If you're keeping it 2.0L, you don't need the 2.4L block. The 4g63 already has a pretty rev-happy stroke and 1.7 R/S ratio. The extra 6 or 12 mm of rod length would be a bit overkill... though if the engine LIVES at 10k and above, you will likely have better engine geometry for that rev range. If ...

I think the RX7 tranny should hold the power you're looking at. Really, that's one of the things in a TII that don't need to be upgraded.

The difference between the 1g and 2g rods are the wrist pin size. The 1g is 21mm while the 2g is 22mm. Also, the 1g "big" rods are a tenth of an inch thicker at the crank end. The rods of the 1g and 2g 4g63's are the same as the rods for the 1g and 2g 4g64's, respectively, 150mm long.

The TII stuff is bolt-in. It's made for the chassis. Plus there are guys running sub 10-second passes on stock TII stuff. I think it's strong enough for me.

I believe the TII pilot bearing isn't pressed into the flywheel. I'm not positive on that though.
