Actually in the states the "Ute" or "Strada" is a "Raider" not a Mighty Max, sorry this doesn't help but it may keep you from steering wrong.

Measure the distance between the dowell pins on the bell housing for confirmation, but something is telling me its a narrow block.
roughly 12 inches is a narrow block, roughly 13 its the wide block

It's not advisable at all to tap into the cam signal, just use the ignition module.
I just used the example from Megasquirt and it works flawlessly with mitsu tachometers.

of course, the 1g part says it all... unless you want my old 8v Max head with nearly 200k on it (cheap)

The 1g head could easily be upgraded with only new valve springs and be capable of 272 or even 280 cams

Hopefully you understand that the 1g is capable of more than the 2g based on port ...

On the subject of 400hp, it's fairly easy if you want to do it dirty.

280 cams, 1000cc injectors, Walbro 255 pump, Aeromotive FPR, Evo III 16G, E85, a damn fine tune, and run wastegate spring pressure (We'll go with "about" 31psi)
