DSM Powered Class at 2010 Shootout?

Hi Guys,

Long time no visit. For the last 10 months or so, I have been focusing on my AWD Summit 4G63t project. But I am still around and my TR7 is "next" in que of projects...

Lets clarify something:

-EVO3 16G is a direct bolt-in for DSM (this a very good and popular turbo)
-EVO8 16G is bigger but it is pointing in the "wrong" direction, so it is vertually impossible to install it in a DSM. However, it is perfect for RWD 4g63 configuration!

Check out my site on my EVO8 ...

EVO8 16G turbos are closer to the old school 20Gs and you can pick them up for around $200, usually with low miles... However, install isn't trevial and it will require at the very minimal alternator relocation (good idea in any case ;)).

What's crappy about the stock tranny?

It isn't very strong. 350ft*lbs of torque is about as much as they can take. And being designed for a low revving 2.6 engines, Starion trannies do not like to shift at high RPMs.

Also, to have a fighting chance get the 88/89 tranny, they are stronger and ...

A typical tranny adaptor plate will cost you $300-$500. Plus, you will have to figure out clutch and starter (since plate will add extra space). What is the point of investing all that effort into a crappy tranny?

You can definitely clean up factory harness to look good!

As for MAF, you can ether go with 2G or EVO 8-9, they look nicer and flow a lot more than 1G. Or you can use GM MAF. Now, you do not even need a tranlator if you get V3 DSM Link.

The obsolute cheapers way to do such conversion, is to use a narrow-block tranny (from a truck) with Starion shifter extention. But that isn't the strongest tranny... So you will have to keep your 4G63 down to under 300hp or so. And isn't easy to do ;).
