W58 Shifter extension

Post by Eric »

Here's what I made over the weekend. After getting the bell housing mounted and playing with the engine's position I realized that the shifter position was way too far forward (i think i'd be shifting right into the console) I decided I had to extend it back. I used a mapp torch, aluminum welding rods, and 1/8" thick aluminum from the hardware store. It actually works and it's very rigid.

Unfortunately I left the bushing at the hardware store when I was looking for a sleave to take up the extra slack around it. :( Oh well, I ordered a new one from www.marlincrawler.com that's probably better than stock anyways.

I agree with Bill. Wow. Sure beats a piece of bent bar stock!

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

It's just an extension of the existing arm so it's still the same shift pattern.

You're teasing us. How about some more pictures of how it works. Possibly some diagrams.
