Here's what I made over the weekend. After getting the bell housing mounted and playing with the engine's position I realized that the shifter position was way too far forward (i think i'd be shifting right into the console) I decided I had to extend it back. I used a mapp torch, aluminum welding rods, and 1/8" thick aluminum from the hardware store. It actually works and it's very rigid.
Unfortunately I left the bushing at the hardware store when I was looking for a sleave to take up the extra slack around it. Oh well, I ordered a new one from www.marlincrawler.com that's probably better than stock anyways.
I agree with Bill. Wow. Sure beats a piece of bent bar stock!
Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
