As far as C4's go post '70 is better. These are known as pan fills as opposed to case fills from pre 70.

The pan fills have the bell bolted to the perimeter of the box whereas the case fill bell bolts up using the pump bolts. Internals on either if from a V8 will be basically the same so are both upgradable to take 1000hp if you spend big money or 500hp for $400 rebuild.

C4 automatic bellhousings that use 10-1/2 bolt pattern torque converter, 157 tooth flywheels
C4 bellhousings that use 11-7/16 bolt pattern torque converters and 164 tooth flywheels

Im not sure if there is a preference for my needs but ill dig about for some info on pro's and cons. As mine will be on the back of the 4g i can adapt as needed.

Any other C4 users fancy this conversion?
