steering box swap q's

Post by 77amc »

Good morning. Would anyone know if you can swap the starquest steering box into the mighty max or d50 to have a quicker ratio?

Thanks..

I know it looked the same but wondered if my truck being a 1ton would have a different spline count or something on that order that wouldn't let me finish the easy swap.

BUT, are the ratios different? Quicker or same?

I jsut wonder why my steering box is leaking from the top.. Since the motor is out i let the parts just hang there and the res is lower but the box is leaking???

You get the pic of the balljoints?
Is that what you needed?

How hard to find are the non-power steering boxes?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

NON POWER?? I didn't say non power.. Both of mine are power..

I just need to know if the quest one is quicker than the maxs' one.
With a closer ratio and the quest rims, it should give better feel in that dept.

Old colt, Sure, whichever one i end up with, the other will be up for sale, just which one?

I guess i'll just put the ol visegrip on each and see how many turns it takes

I just can't get the DSM power steering brackets to work with the RWD water pump. Wanted to throw a non-power box on so Craig could drive the car around until I figured it out.

DJ,
Power steering was a rare treat on the D-max's so you should not have any problems finding one without p/s to swap over.

Sorry, I dont' remember seeing DJ's post.
I'll try and pop the box off of the starion stuff.

And get those parts taken separated for ya.

Smog. From my experience with a Starion ratio box with the power steering not connected, you will hate life. Perhaps there is less drag with a non-power box, but still. The ratio is what it is on the non power steering boxes to overcome the mechanical disadvantage
