I just came across an offer on a 4g64 out of a 99 galant, will that work with the conquest tranny? its a 7 bolt motor.

I'm pretty sure the 99 is not the same. At least not in the traditional sense. It probably is a 4G64, but I think it faces the other side of the car. Not sure when they made the transition. I know they made the turbo 4G63 in the Eclipse in 99, so it might just be the same. If you look a the EVO, the timing side is on the pass side of the car. It's still a 4G63, but very different. It may still work, you'll just want to make sure the DOHC head will fit properly.

My cousin lent me a Chiltons on D50s so I'll try to learn something from that this week.

The 4G63 head fits on that motor (99 galant). Everything is the same as the 4G63, but if I want to run a 5 speed RX7 tranny with the conquest bell housing wouldn't I need a wideblock?

That doesnt mean you couldnt do it. You'd just have very limited options as far as flywheels. You could certainly use a 7 bolt truck flywheel.

Still not sure if the Evo block is narrow or wide. 25 years of observation shows that the transverse setup has a narrowblock, but who knows. The evo does have a 240mm clutch disk. This probably doenst mean it uses a wider bellhousing though, but who knows. Still researching.

So is the 4g63 in my auto 91 Talon a narrow block? I also have a friend looking for a 92 D50 engine. Just need to find a block that works with my series 5 Turbo 2 tranny.

I was under the impression that the answer to that question is common knowledge. It is a narrowblock. This is mentioned to no end around the site. Is there anything I could add to the site to make this more clear?

Do you think this swap would be this hard if the DSM engine came with the same bellhousing as a Starion?

Well its not knowledge that I have acquired just yet I'm new to this engine and site which is why I'm asking questions. And I will be searching the site alot now since I just joined today. Oh and i'm not swapping the 4g63 into a Starion. Hope my questions haven't pissed anyone off.

The reason I posted what I did was to see what I could do to improve the site. For the last few days I've been writing new pages here and there and updating some of the old ones. Its hard for me to see what's missing from a newcomer's perspective after being waist deep in this stuff for 4 years.

If I want to use a 4g64/g4cs in a AWD Talon, I need to find a narrow block, correct? I need not even look in a mighty max, but any van, expo, or car 4g64 should be narrow block.

Thanks for any info, and awesome site. tons of info here

That's correct. If you're putting it in a Talon you'll need a narrowblock so dont even bother looking at the Mightmax trucks. The Van, Expo and Sonata should all have 2.4L 6 bolt narrowblocks (if my sources are correct).
