D50 transmission with conquest shifter?

Post by 4g63mightymax »

I currently have a 4g63 1989 d50 with a stock d50 5 speed transmission. I know that you can somehow put a conquest shifter on the D50 transmission to move the shifter further back. Do I need to swap the whole tail section of the transmission or just that top shifter section? AND, does anybody have the stuff I need to do it?
Thanks

You'll need the whole rear tail section. Talk to some SQC guys and see if anyone has any blown transmissions that you can get the parts from.

I've done it to mine. Its tricky at first to put it back together but once you can imagine it in your head you can do it really fast first try.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

DJpowerHaus---> does this conquest tail section swap make the transmission itself any longer, or just move the shifter back? Does the d50 driveshaft yoke slip into a conquest transmission?
thanks

I have heard that the D50 yoke is the same, but have not tried it myself. The Starion tail housing does not change the length of the transmission.... you're actually using the same output shalf. Mounts and everything are the same.
