EVO intake?

Post by Silverjoel »

Would the EVO intake help simplify some modifications? The throttle body is on the right side I believe. Has anyone used one for the 4g63 swap into a starquest?

I think I saw some pics of both gaskets together and it seems like the evo manifold has narrower ports than the VR4.

Do you have to modify the vr4 intake?

VR4 is the same as the 1G DSM intake, right? In that case the throttle body is pointing towards the back of the engine and should be modified to face forward for RWD configurations. Or you could run your IC piping into the cockpit.. I've seen it before on crazy RWD drag DSMs (for example Slowboy's car)

I'd have to see the gaskets compared between the Evo and 1G before I could draw any conclusions. Where is the EGR port on the Evo?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

I'm not sure where the egr port is, but I'm pretty sure that the evo intake has the throttle body on the correct side for rwd application. I have to do some more research on the intake though.

the real problem with it is that the flange is asymetircial and may not line up when "reversed" like the Evo engine.

Evo 4 onwards are reversed to the 1g or VR4, the plenum from what i have seen sits a bit lower aswell. All evo's were 7 bolt engines that why the ports are the same as the 2g. the egr port i am not sure about but if you are not that worried about pollution laws just block it off with some JB weld.
