Is the G64B available as wideblock and narrowblock ?

Post by AustinTSI »

In the FAQ on this site (and from Kane) it says that the G64B is a 2.4L WIDEBLOCK only! But in the list of Mitsubishi engines it has the G64B as both a wideblock and a NARROWBLOCK 6-bolt.

Can someone confirm (as in seen it, measured it) one way or the other?

Thankx, David.

Hyundai G4CS is a narrow 2.4L 6 bolt.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

check out the third line down from the pink line at the bottom of the engine list on this site at http://projectzerog.com/mitsubishi_engines.shtml

unless there is an error it is a G64B narrowblock in a 84-87 Galant

I'm not trying to argue...I'm just trying to confirm before I buy one.

You need to see them and measure to be sure on any of them. There where so many variations, split dates, and manufacturers using up what they had, that you can never be sure during that time period.

To the best of my knowledge FWD are narrow blocks where the centre to centre measurement of the widest bolts on the bell housing is 310 mm whereas the RWD wide blocks measured 330mm

I have a query. If I got a wideblock 2.4 4G64 block, will it work, or does it have to be an EXACT type of wideblock 4G64?

The only difference is whether it is a 6-bolt or a 7-bolt which is determined by the number of bolts on the transmission side of the crank shaft. You can also tell by the oil pan right under the harmonic balancer on the crank shaft. If the pan has a dip in the pan under the balancer then it is a 7-bolt. A 6-bolt is flat.
