evo 8 turbo question
Ok, so I have an 88 starion and I'm currently building a 4g64 DOHC swap for it and I have a killer deal on an evo 8 turbo. Question is, are there any special things or mods needed to mount the turbo. I've searched and can't find any info. It seems pretty straight forward, turbo, manifold and mount. but I just want to check with people with a little more experience with these cars... Thanks in advanve

you're getting a killer deal because that turbo spins and mounts in the opposite direction.
you'll have to make a custom manifold to run it

^Correct, in the dsm world, it will face the wrong way, but we are building RWDs remember so it faces the correct way for us. The Evo exhaust manifold will bolt up as well.
I'm going to be using a Evo 9 16g (larger compressor housing than the VIII) on my stroker. The only thing I've heard is the possibility of the 8/9 turbos sitting closer to the block than if you had a dsm style turbo on it. I haven't acquired a turbo yet to do the mock up, but when you do let me know

for whatever reason i was thinking topmount applications (which has nothing to do with the stock manifold anyways)

You wil have to atleast add a spacer.. or the turbo will not fit.
There is a bulge for a balance shaft in the way that in the evo is on the other side.
(remember the evo head has it's intake & exhaust swapped)
But with a thick flange, 2 gaskets and longer headstuds it should all fit.
And keep in mind that you'll probably have to relocate the alternator to the other side.
