Clutch master into a mighty max...

Post by boise-nic »

This is almost the last step of my project...and the one I've been the most perplexed by. The truck came with a cable clutch and I now have a hydralic transmission (w58) and now need to somehow put a clutch master / pedal assembly into the truck. I see two different ways to go about it...

If I went and got one from a supra and tried to mount it in the engine bay like normal, I would have an interference issue with the brake booster. So I would probably have to get a smaller diameter brake booster and try to make it work.

I could get a custom one from wilwood or tilton that has it "flipped" so that the reservioir is on the passenger side of the firewall. I'm not such a fan of this approach.

I don't suppose anyone has some pictures of a car/truck that they had to put a hydralic clutch in. Just wondering what type of setup they did...

you could get a reverse mounted pedal setup that should fit under the dash
then just mount the resevoir remotely in the engine bay
resevoir doesnt have to stay under the dash

I originally had a wilwood master. But it got in the way of my intake. So I switched to a howie racing cylinder. Check them out they are quite small I can take some pics if your curious to know what it looks like mounted.

Hmm, the ones I can find that are reversed are all dual pedals...

Did you have a site for the 'howie racing' cylinder?

Sorry its not Howie but Howe.

Heres a link to the master cylinders:

I got the g3. I found a brand new one on ebay, that no one bid on and got the sucker for 10 bucks plus 12 bones for shipping. So look around before you buy on their site if you do decide on one.

Ah, cool. That is a very compact master. That is just the cylinder correct? Did you use one of their pedals too?

Thanks for the info, I think I will go that route.

Hmm, not a bad way to go. For some reason, it didn't occure to me to offset the cylinder to the pedal like a normal DSM. That would made the interference issue with the brake booster go away entirely. I like it. I think I even have a newer 1G master cylinder laying around. In your thread, you say the dsm master is 5/8" dia...I'm using a W58 transmission and I need to investigate the bore of the slave to see what type of mechanical advantage and stroke I will get. Thanks again! :)
