If you are trying to weld the steel plate to cast iron, good luck with it holding up very long, it is a good idea but I just don't see it being very durable.

2 Gaskets?

Anyways. This looks like an awesome idea. I'm now considering it for my car over the log manifold I was going to make. Keep us posted on how it turns out.

How are you going to bolt the manifold to the head?

Nevermind, now I see what you are trying to do. Do the ports still line up with it flipped?

Interesting... Let me get this straight.

Your going to block off the orginal turbo exit with a plate...

Open/cut/grind the top and mount the turbo directly on the top?

I cut and welded like you did and it lasted about a year. Maybe 12 events. Then it cracked to hell, not only on the welds.

i'll be a buyer for sure, for 2 of em atleast.

great job man, this actually solves alot of clearance issues that i had. now i can put my alternator back in the stock location and i can make a p.s. bracket that would bolt to the a/c compressor area and not deal with clearance issues.

let me know when or if you can make them extras

No cracks, I even took it out for a drift session 2 nights ago before its last trip into the garage.

Mine is braced-so I would find a place to brace it to the flange. I can get some pics if you need, but go through the pick in my link and see if you can see what I am talking about.

Do you guys want to get a batch of these cut? I should be able to invest in that in a few months or somehow line up a group purchase. If someone could make up a CAD drawing or something, that would really help.

Can you make me a wood mock up as well? I'd like to test fit one up on my racecar with the Holset.

i'm in for sure!
i made a wood piece for my starion just to test fit the other day and it cleared the hell out of my lower egine section plus it looks less cluttered! not to mention the turbo lines are a lot easier to acess.

just for shits and giggles, how thick would the real adapter be?

I would make it atleast think enough to thread studs into it with out bottoming out on the head-- I'd say 12-14m minimum considering the 8mm studs we are working with.

Would the 2nd gen heads need different plate or just opening up the outer bolt holes would probally work right??? Then you could just convert to the 1gen set up.

Do we need an autocad drawing for this? I have a friend that works in aerospace and he does this type of stuff all day. I'm sure he could whip one up in 30 min or less. If we really need one I'll have him do it. Just let me know.

I'll be down for one as well. Stacking those flanges and welding them looks pretty straight forward but i wonder if that would last being thermo cycled day in day out. A solid piece sounds great, get on it dude haha.

Is it possible to send it to RRE? I'm sure they already have it drawn up and a supplier.

If not, I could have my dad draw it up and have it laser cut somewhere around here. The biggest pain is going to be tapping half the holes.

Id almost want one of the 125.00 ones and cut/flip/reweld it back up..

That's why I wanted to know how much room there is between the standard 4g valve cover and the average quest/project hood to either make a scoop or just have it sticking out like the ol blowers of yor.

Does it matter how long the runners are on a forced exhaust anywho?
Those looked really long..

As far as that flange adapter goes, all you need to do is go to emachineshop.com and make a CAD drawing of it. They'll machine it and send it out to you.

I've never used their service before, but it seems incredibly convenient for parts like this.
