DJpowerHaus' Big Adventure

Post by DJpowerHaus »

I'm quitting my job tomorrow and packing for a 4 month trip to Europe. I'll leave from Phili at 6PM on Tuesday 29th. I'll try my best to answer questions while I'm gone and keep you guys up to date.

Here is a link to my google calendar. It has some of what I am planning on doing, but certainly not all of it ;-). I'll take plenty of pictures which I'll be sure to post.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

I'm going to be at PHL @ 5pm to pick up my brother who is flying in from Los Angeles.

If it's worth getting together before you leave I'll send you a PM with my cell #.

I'm sitting in the Phili airport now. Free wifi for students. Never throw out your student ID. Luckily I remembered to keep mine.

I am in Italy now. My friends Nicola and his girlfriend Jessica are keeping me very busy. 3 big meals every day. I love it. Today we planned my calendar, but I have yet to update my Google Calendar.

Tonight we watched videos her family took at the Torrita Historic Rally. Group B rally cars, Lancia / Puegeot / Opel... all in their home town which is VERY small. It is like the NASCAR of Italy. Her father is a big fan and helps with the Historic Rally for the town.

More details later. Must sleep tonight. Tomorrow we go to get me a SIM card for my mobile phone.

I've been in Italy since the 29th of April and I've got 3 more months to go.

Started with 10 days with my friends in Torrita di Siena, Italy. I've got an apartment at the bottom of the hill:
Image

Spent the first day there with friends on Lake Trasemine. May 1st = Labor day + Birthday

My friend's father organized the Historic Rally of Torrita and we watched videos of this car:

also, a Stratos, 205 T16, Renault 5 maxi turbo... all driving down the street I'm staying on. Her dad is a rally nut. Speaks no english but we talk for hours about rally cars.

Castle:

Took 36 km bike ride the other day and want to Montepulciano for some photos. Amazing hill top town:

Florence:

Went to Lucern:
Beautiful town. Met some Fiat Punto car club meet just winding down. Got a ride to "The Roadhouse" and saw this band from NJ:

First COLD beers in a while so I had plenty. (Whats with warm beer in Italy?)

Woke up in a park next to the Transport Museum. Museum was AMAZING. I was like a kid in a candy store...
Image
did I mention the Sauber building?

On my way out of town I saw the swiss aerobatic team doing practice over Lucern:

Scenic train ride to Interlaken.
Image

Met some canadians at the Hostel. Hit up happy hour. Made fun of Trailer Park Boys with them.
Image

Next day went paragliding:

Next day went to the Audi museum in Ingolstadt, Germany. Unfortunatly they took all the ridiculous Group B / Group S prototypes and race cars off the display rotisserie. Did get to see Michelle Mouton's Quattro though:
Image
and the only remaining AutoUnion Silver Arrow
Image

After that... Volksfest with my couchsurfing host:

that girl on the left's butt:

Met this cute girl on the train to Berlin

Saw this in Berlin too.
Image
Image
awesome statue:
Image
Literally called "Memorial for Murdered Jews"
Image
Looted Booty from Babylon
Image

Next town was Stuttgart... Mercedes Museum was closed in Stuttgart. Fucking Germans. Night train full of crying babies back to Tuscany. 3 days to plan and recover for... Monaco on May 25th. Followed by the Cote d'Azur, Spain and Portugal. Photos and videos for sure....

And later this summer. Ferrari, Goodwood FoS, David Sutton Rally Museum, and Rally Finland

Finally getting a chance to post an update.

Had a hard time getting to the race. The french railroad was on strike so there were no train running the morning of the race. They did send one train through around 9 so fuck my chances of getting checked into the Hostel in Nice and having no backpack to worry about. Get to Monaco and find the Secre Roche or whatever its called (cheap seats). Here is my $150 seat:

Image

but the view is okay:

Image

Porsche SuperCup and Formula Renault was fun in the torrential downpour. Everyone is soaked:

Image

but some Napolese Italians are there and give me a sandwich and some beer:

Image
Get to see the racers and celebs come out (Cannes Film Festival was the same weekend). Hamilton waving to us:

Image

and the Fanatics go NUTS

Image

The race is seriously the loudest thing I've ever heard. Louder than sprint cars, I'd even say they're louder (combined) than 2 top fuel dragsters. I heard that they were loud, but I also heard IRL was loud. There is no comparison. These cars are just deafening loud even from the top of this hill.

Image
Image
Image
Image

The race was seriously long. 76 laps of 78 completed when they called it. Crashes gallore. a good $10 million worth of carbon fiber destoyed... Fun.
After the race I walked around Monaco and remembered just how cool of a city was. If every city in the world had all the money they could ask for, maybe they could be like this too. I was running on 4 hours of sleep (on a train station floor) and tired of carrying my pack so I headed back to Nice on the most crowded train ever (outside of India).

Image

Spent a day in Nice, had dinner and got drunk with a canadian girl from the Hostel and the next day I was off to Barcelona.

Barcelona is OUT OF CONTROL. Kabul Hostel is just a party from 5PM to 5AM. Everybody starts at happy hour, groups form, groups find reasons to go out to bars and get trashed. I'm hanging out with these 2 canadian sisters. Baby sis is turning 19 so she gets the "Monica Lewinski" shot at the bar from Bucket Head.

Image
Gets pretty well out of control from there. Meet up with some girls I saw on the train into town.

Her sister:
Image

Image

Stumbled back.. lagged behind for some making out. Saw these 2 girls sitting under an umbrella and broke off from the group.

Image

Stayed up until 6AM with with these girls and an Indian guy named "Rocky" bringing us drinks every 30 min. These girls were seriously my soul mates. Dirty jokes, sarcasm. Met up with them the next night too and probably will visit them in Vienna later this summer.
Image

Spent the next day with the birthday girl and her sister seeing some sites.

This is like 1/100th of it so far. Chilling in Madrid for a few hours. Preparing for another long spanish night.
