From looking at other people's dyno's on stock type turbo setups, the 2.0L seems to make good torque at about 3k RPM. That seems to be where the turbo really kicks in and the engine itself starts making good torque. I would say the 2.4L would be very similar in toque delivery and a small turbo like the 16g or even 14b would make boost sooner. If you have the cash, go for the 2G head. If you're not aiming higher than 300hp, it will work great. The 61T head would also be good, but you'll need lower compression pistons. Most aftermarket 2.4L pistons are 9.0:1. The 61T head would boost that a bit higher.
My advice is to build this in stages. Build a junkyard 2.4L DOHC and see if you like the power and delivery from the motor. If this is the route you'd like to go, then build the bottom end and strap a turbo to it. If it turns out it something you don't want, then you won't have too much invested in it. From what everyone seems to say, the 2.4L DOHC will get you an 11:1 compression ratio and will probably make nearly 200hp on it's own.
