I got in touch with Eric Plebani and found out some things about the D50 tranny he used to build up for his 10sec 4g63 drag Conquest

note: there's different things you can do to the tranny the ay he built them to hold more power. The one I'm buying will hold 300-350hp range and from what he says can be rebuilt cheap using the build sheet it would come with.

here's a couple things he says-

when asked about holding th power...

"It will be fine for about 300 hp. even then it can fail. But it usualy takes alot of abuse for that to happen. "

"best bet just to get the project up and running is go with what bolts right up. All the enginnering was figured at the factory. When and if you blow a couple up, you can always upgrade from there."

when asked if this was the same variant of tranny build he used for the 10sec car..

"Yes I did use a variation of that trans, with bigger internals. When I switched to the auto chevy trans is when I was able to go consistent 9.5's. With 300 hp the trans should live alot longer than you'd expect, I'd go for it."

"yeah you can rebuild these real cheap. The trans can spin at any rpm, thats not a big problem. The car looks awsome, I still love the looks of those things and would love to find a clean one around here"

for now I'd just go with Eric's advice and focus on getting it on the road and go until you need to upgrade.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

exactly, there's no way I'll be able to just build it and have a 11sec car. that's going to take awhile getting everything sorted.

I was at a drift event talking to a guy putting a V8 in an RX7 (basically he was familiar with odd combos) and he talked about some discussion of a viper 6spd adapter. Big $$.. but.. what do you expect? Any tranny that can hold that power is going to be in the $6000 range easily!

Well, heck.. I found a $2500 viper tranny for sale with only 3Kmi. What a deal! Wonder if it'll bolt to a 420A or something :-D. I would SOOOOO do it too!

ok well i'd like to know how to get ahold of plebani.. and i would also like to know what he was askin for trannies? i'm building a mild 2.0 for now.. and personally i am working on getting somone to recut some gears for a D50 trans and make them stronger if possible..

biggest thing to me is keeping my 5 speed trans.. and not having to cut my center console to pieces for the shifter...

thanx
