90 Mitsubishi Mighty Max with a 4g63 swap

Post by 91turboGSX »

Here is my '90 Mitsubishi Mighty Max that I am doing a 4g63 swap into and alot of other custom gooderies.

The day I saved it from the crusher:

Teardown was started shortly after (I hate rust):

First thing I really did was threw in some DSM seats since I got rid of the crappy bench.

I pulled the stock engine out and such and it sat for a while until I completely figured out what I wanted to do with it. Just started working on it again about a month ago and would like to get it done soon. I'll be painting the engine bay. I'm reinforcing the frame in certain spots and fixing rust then getting it sandblasted and powdercoated. There will be all new suspension and bushings. It'll be lowered 2.5" up front and 3" in the rear. Leaving the stock paint on the outside for that sleeper look.

Also looking for about 400whp from the 4g63 I have going into it. R154 transmission thanks to Bill Hincher. I know I left out quite a bit of what I'm gonna do but i'll update as I do them. Should be a fun drift/track/street vehicle. :D

Little bit of a mess because we were in the middle of a cleansing.

I'll update more as I progress into this project further.

I'll be running a 5 speed R154 from a MKIII Toyota Supra. Very strong transmission. Should handle any abuse I can put through it. Hopefully.

When you get the trans mounted up, I would really like to know how the placement of the shifter comes out. I'm planning on doing the swap to my 90 model also. I have a local guy that is willing to sell me an 88 model RX7 trans, but if the Supra trans is better then I might go that route.

Then again, I'm only going for a 300 hp set up so MAYBE the Stocker will be ok, but I'd rather be safe than sorry for now.

I am working right now on a shifter extention that is adjustable, you will see it ofr the R-154 and the W-55 but I kinda need to know where to start, how long is reasonable?

If my measurements are correct the shifter location works out to be within a half an inch or so longer than the stock D50/MM transmission. Which in my opinion is better in this truck.
