What do YOU guys think about balance shaft removal on the 4g63? I've read all the arguments, but just wondered what some of you guys think. I mean, is it REALLY only to dampen cabin vibes? Or will removing it actually harm long term life? I can't decide if I want to do it before I drop the engine in.

while your engines out, pick them up and just hold them for a sec.. do you want that in your engine if it can be removed? just make sure all the machine work is done right and dont think 2wice about removing them. as for longterm life, im no expert on this aspect of the removel but i have at least one friend up to 20k with a balanced shaft-removed dsm. also, its more freed up hp, and in the end isnt what building cars like these is all about? ;)

Well I don't really plan on tearing the block apart or anything so theres no machine work thats being done. I just hear so many conflicting arguments that the balance shaft has/does not have an effect on the engine balance itself. I could care less about cabin vibes, or even longevity... I mean if I can get another 20k out of the motor I'd be happy... I just wonder what it would do, coupled with an undampened pulley if I decide to go that route, as well. I'm thinkin it might only last 20,000 miles, but it'd be a damn good 20,000 miles! :-P

Yeah, it does have an affect on engine balance. But as long as you pull the rotating assembly and have it balanced, no problem...
Well, now I've got the truck, should I do the swap? :)<br><a href='http://www.handcraftedracing.com' target='_blank'>http://www.handcraftedracing.com</a><br><a href='http://storm.prohosting.com/likness' target='_blank'>http://storm.prohosting.com/likness</a>
