Guys, I am a complete novice when I comes to RWD manual trannies.
I need to install a pilot bearing into my FWD DSM FW. But when I tried a flywheel pilot bearing (which happens to be from the Mighty Max) on my Starion input shaft, I noticed that it was much larger than the shaft.
I haven’t yet measured it, but if I had to guess, I would say that there is at least .020” worth of clearance. Which is huge when it come to bearing fit.
Does that sound right? Or should it be a tight fit?

Why not just use the transmission and flywheel from the mighty max? Are you a 6 bolt motor? Then you just go get a stock mighty max pilot bearing and tap it in. There is a great clutch I had ACT make me that has yet to slip, even though I ripped the trans mount off of the trans case
. Just remove the locating pin from the back of the crank and slap that 2.0 mighty max flywheel on there, buy the clutch, and bolt it together. It has worked for me, untill I crashed anyways.

I used the smaller custom unsprung disc (for the mighty max FW) with a pressure plate that is actually not to bad, even with the stock clutch cable in my Colt. I figure when I was running the 16G with a 100 shot I was making about 400hp up here at 4500 ft to get the 11.20. I have since put on a 60-1, a ported head, FP 2 cams, and an SBR exhaust manifold. I would say its making quite a bit more just on 26 psi. I have managed to break everything else in the car except the clutch (see crash in the media section).
We just put the same set up in a D50. We will see if it still holds up with a similar tune and the extra weight and bigger tires.
To be honest though, I will be looking for something a little heavier duty as I will be stepping it up again. If you are interested, ask dirtboy488 on here if he still has the part #'s
