Coilover options for Starions

Post by KahnBB6 »

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering what some of you use for coilover shocks in your Starions. I recall something about using Mazda RX-7 FC3S coilover kits because they bolt right in.

Do companies like Tein or HKS make a specific kit or is it very much a mix and match deal?

So does this severely limit the handling of these cars with their circa 1980 suspension design?

I know Ground Controls are good and very durable as an alternative to real coil-overs. For a street driven car I don't suppose it would make any difference as long as you can adjust each corner independently.

Never heard about the RX7 thing. I'll check into it though. There is an FC right next to mine in the shop.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Checked out the FC coilovers... they would NEVER bolt on... EVER. They are a clevis type attachment to the upright. Short of swapping the entire hub which might be barely possible I cant imagine putting FC struts on a Starion.

I've seen pictures of FC brakes on a Starion in Japan though. Not sure if they used adpater plates or what. Perhaps someone could look into this?
