Coil Polarity of Denso motorcycle coils

Post by DJpowerHaus »

Does anyone have a bike or know anything about coils that could help me figure out which pin is + and which is - on Denso coils? They are coil on plugs found on lots of sport bikes including GSXRs, F4... and also I've seen them on Indy cars.

Does it matter? I read somewhere that + and - didn't matter. it'd make a spark either way, but the current would just flow out of the block not into it???

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

The first website says that the coil will work either way, but it has a stronger spark if correctly installed. The second website mentions that the polarity matters, and the rest don't mention anything other than how a coil works in general. I'm trying to think back to my general physics classes to see if it matters as well. If the ignition coil was a capacitor that used bi-metal plates instead of coiled wire, I know it would matter.

Hope this helps.

I finally tracked down a GSXR 600 manual which had some great info:

I'm going to be reading through the whole manual tonight. I'm such a nerd for this stuff.
