Wanted: Info on 4g63 starion gigs

Post by JazzTheRacer »

Apparently its common? And if it makes it go I'm in. But how do i go about such business? What did you all do? I have a perfectly good 1987 Starion ESI-R with engine problems, so now is as good a time as any to do this, am I right or am I right?

Pics to follow soon.

Do it! Don't get too carried away. Keep it nice and simple.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

I'm interested in a 4g63 swap, or a 6g72 swap. any good instructional on either? I hear, as far as 4g63's go, the starion's transmission will only be compatible to the wideblocks (or SOHC) and getting a DOHC version is impossible with the starion's stock transmission. Is this so? Then for the 6g72, are there any RWD transmissions compatible to that engine? I couldn't find any info on such a job.

for 6g72 info

If you read up on the homepage here, the only issues you really have with the DOHC heads are clearances at the rear of the head and the firewall for the CAS and thermostat housing. Some people just "massage" the firewall with a hammer or mallet, others move those components (change to trigger wheel in the case of the CAS) up front.
