well it looks like i found the problem to not being able to use a tach, http://www.egauges.com/pdf/AutoMeter/561.pdf , scroll to the bottom and youll see how to hook it up to a mitsu. the problem is, i went and bought this and theres a discrepancy with the wiring. on the above link it shows to cut and tap into the black and white wire but on the instructions that came with mine it doesnt have any wire colors.
i couldnt find any good wiring diagrams so can someone tell me if it is indeed the black and white wire i tap into? thanks in advance.
It is indeed a black/white wire. I tried hooking up my truck tack to the ECU pin 109 wire for the tach, how DJ and poorboyj did his, but it didn't work at all for me or poorboyj (the truck tachs must be different than the starion tachs). What worked for me was using the black/white tach test terminal wire hanging off the engine harness. Hope that helps.
just for reference this unit does indeed work. its so simple its scary. it has nothing to do with the ecu. just takes the power pulses to the coil and converts them to a signal the tach can read. if your having tach problems this is an easy solution.

My truck does not have a factory tac, it had a Sunpro hooked up to the coil. Will the black/white tach test terminal wire work with the sunpro-and if so, how do I locate it?
It that does not work, will the Autometer tach adapter Perigrine talks about work with the Sunpro or only with an autometer tach?
Mine works fine wired in to the tach output from the ECU, I have an older used Autometer sport comp monster tach with no shift light. I just tied into the same place as where the SAFC II rpm source wire connects. Its pin 54 on the center connector to the ECU.
