mighty max guys...big tire question

Post by boise-nic »

Has anyone had any experience with diamondracingwheels.com? Im thinking about having them custom make some 15" wheels. I took some dimensions and came up with the following:
The front tires seem like a typical 8" rims with 3"-3.5" backspacing.
The rears are a little more interesting...im torn between 8" or 10" rims. I don't think I have the option of anything between. I "think" I can get away with a 10" rim with 5.5" of backspace. This would allow me to run a 265mm. Would it be better to try and cram a 266mm on an 8" or 10" rim? Im sorts shooting in the dark. Anybody running big tires on their max?

Hey. I have a link to a wheel and tire size comparer. It doesn't list the Mighty Max, so I don't have the stock wheel size, offset, backspacing, etc. But you really don't need it. You can change wheel size and offset, and see what tires may fit. If you plug in the Mitsubishi stock size in Package 1 (15" x 8" with an ET of -25 will give you backspacing of 3.5") and the size you want to go to in Package 2 (15" x 10" with an ET of 0 will give you 5.5" backspacing), it may help you determine if there is room or not. I loaded the info from your post in on the comparer, but I don't know if that will transfer over to the link (It didn't). I hope this helps get you out of the dark somewhat. Hopefully someone will post that has 10" wide wheels so you will know. Good luck.

Fwiw, with the explorer rear, there is enough room to fit a 10" wheel with a 7.5" backspace. Are the stock mighty max wheels really 8" wide?

^Wow, thanks for the link! That is awsome work. As far as the stock size wheels, I'm not sure if the OEM wheels (on the 2wd) were 8" or not, mine came with some nasty aftermarket wheels. Once I nail this down, I'll post up some pics so we have some frame of reference for others.

I'm running montero 15" rims with some meaty bf all terrains, on them. They look good. I'll post some pics later when I get home.
