B2600 input shaft problems

Post by Lunacy »

Well i trial fitted my b2600 box onto the engine without the clutch and FW on and had no problems, it all bolted up fine.
However once the clutch and FW were on, i kept ending up with around a 10mm gap between the bellhousing and the block.
I found out that it was the splined part of the input shaft hitting on the fw bearing. Has anyone else had this problem?
As far as i knew, i only needed to shorten the tip of the input shaft by 7-8mm to clear the crank, didnt know the splines needed modifying.
Only other thought was possibly the flywheel wasn't all the way onto the crank, but it torqued up fine (its a fidanza btw in case that makes a difference).
Maybe just need a new input shaft out of something else?

10mm is the exact width of the pilot bearing, is it placed in the flywheel and needed to be placed in the crankshaft?

Kane, box was out of an unknown year b2600 ute, thats why im wondering as some of the later ones had an unusable input shaft from what ive read.

Bill, the input shaft splines were hitting on the bearing itself, the part which was supposed to sit in the bearing was fine, but seems that either the FW is sitting too far out, or the box i have isnt the right one.
Gonna reheat and seat the FW again this morning to rule that out and go from there

Kane.
Kane I think that I will have to do the Mazda box/tranny swap and was wondering if yoy knew how they were holding up .I am tokd they are a stronger box than the km132 and that they are nicer to change at higher revs Any feedback fron anyone who has done it as well as how to get the speedo reading correctly with a 3.9 diff would be appreciated
Cheers
