KM145 KM 132 - 5 Speed Strengthening Pans - More

Post by plh »

Summer is coming and I am sure people are getting ready to bring out that fun car or truck more and finally have good weather to do upgrades (at least in the northern climates).

So I have a steady supply of Strengthening Pans available. Made in thicknesses of 19mm for $109.95 or 12mm for $94.95. Includes mounting hardware, Loctite etc. Even added some bling.

Website created for easier ordering. Paypal Cart etc...

Get the info here: www.tuffpans.com

That's a very nice product you have to sell! I also sold the very same product but with dowel pins, so there was ZERO movement of the housing.

Hi Paul I have had my first srteet sprint event and touch wood the box handled the 588kn = 431 fp of torque easy.Don't know what advantage if any the dowell pins would make as your pans are a precision fit needing a little gentle persuasion with a rubber knockometer (hammer )to fit
The bling looks great BUT I daon't intend putting my Starion on the roof to show it off

The very first attempt was to TRANSPLANT the pan to ANOTHER transmission. (which failed  )

The center-to-center bolt pattern was NOT consistant ENOUGH so we went to DOWEL PINS to keep the TWO PARTS LOCKED TOGETHER.

And...it is CHAMPHER (on the top-side at 6 o'clock & 12 o'clock) so removing it is much easier with a pry-tool.

When you work-on performance, transmission parts.....you'll understand *WHY* DOWEL PINS have a purpose.

Note: NO *SHOULDERS* on the studs.

Btw...the trans dowel pin holes are a TIGHTER FIT then the holes in the pan and treated with GREEN Loctite so the dowel pins will STAY-PUT into the trans.

But I do LOVE to use STUDS when I can.

TRUE....I do remove the casting-flash to make a housing a lil' tuffer. The by-product is it polishes the housing too. Hey, when you have plenty of POWER TOOLS, it don't take long.
Image

Btw....we do OTHER mods too.

I like the locating dowel pin idea, but quite difficult to properly implement laying on your back retrofitting a pan under your vehicle. If you have the transmission pulled out and have access to a facility that can bore precision diameter holes, the pans I have available could easily facilitate dowels.

Agreed. I write the instructions, right on the pan with Magic Marker.

Just use a LETTERD drill bit (forgot the size  ) and a centering, transfer punch, cause the pan is already drilled for dowel pins.

Many trans builders stoped using a gasket and GLUED the pan on.

phl, here's another product you might want to make/sell.

This is a VIBRATION ABSORBER, attached to the engine crossmember on late 80s & early 90s VW, Corrado, G60, supercharged.

The VR-6 Passet had one 3 times this size attached to a large, flat area on the engine crossmember.

You could make one that covers most of the Starquest, trans mount, crossmember.....cause we are well-aware of the 2.6 vibration.

I showed this product in the SOS, clutch replace chapter and a bunch of guys wanted to buy one. I was just TOO BUSY to pursue that idea.

Your pan could also be sold as a "VIBRATION ABSORBER".

Ok, Install Complete.straightforward and simple.

here's what you get.

Image

I counted out the Studs, Bolts & Washers, 12 each. M10 Nuts, Nice! even a drain plug gasket the tranny didn't have!

What came off...

Image

That nasty black thing is the magnet... no provision in the Tuff Pan for it?

Oh well, the Drain Plug has a Magnet.

Image

Note, there is a frront and back side of the Tuff Pan as noted.

Image

Cork Gasket! interesting. Not reused, figured there was a reason for the locktite gasket maker. more Rigidity.

Image

Threads being chased...good idea, some had been damaged over the years.

Image

Studs installed after light sanding and wire wheel work on the mating surface.
Note: no grinding needed on the case.

Image

Viola! finished, ready to go back under the truck.
