Yeah i reacently decided that i want to do the 4g63 swap in my conquest considering more potential in the motor and higher performance. im just wondering what year/ style 4g/ 6bolt compaired to 7bolt would be best for my swap? Also best transmission to put in? Money and time are not an issue, any input would be greatly appreciated.

You know what would be sick if money really wasnt an issue. (if you are in america) Use an EVO 8,9 Motor. R154 transmission. Use the wiring harness from an evo 8 , 9 so you could just reflash / tune the ecu.

Its your call, but there are quite a few options.

The most common is the 6 bolt swap as its being majorly supported by Bill with his trans adapters. Its also been around for quite some time so used parts are easy to come by. And if you ever want to tune, check out www.ds-map.net. Get rid of the MAF, and swap to a MAP set up really cheap.

You could do the Evo motor, but the parts are more pricey as there aren't a ton of wrecked evos laying around in junkyards. The swap hasn't really been done as much, so the wiring would probably be more hands on learning than posting in the forums.

The other that hasn't really been explored too much is the 2.4 block from the 3g eclipses, Hyundai sonata, blah blah blah. You can find an evo head, OR rock the 2.4 hyundai head with 1g cams/springs and such and your set up or boost. The bottom end has been able to hold over 400 trq. Its not as popular, and I know the starter is opposite of the Evo so you'd have to contact Bill for testing and what not. BUT, almost 25% more displacement never hurt anyone. The cheapest is actually one of the easiest. 6bolt 4g63 with a D50 2.0 manual transmission. Both are widely available and cost is low compared to other options.

Finding a 6bolt in a junkyard is a lot cheaper that trying to source it over the internet. D50 transmissions can be found for $250 all day long just about anywhere.

I personally believe that the 4g64 with a head swap is the best option because of the weight of the car. If you are staying 4cyl that is.

What do you want? The best and baddest, or just the easiest. You have so many options it gets silly.

On the 4g64 with Head Swap, you really need to do some research. I've HEARD that the 64 crank out of the early models will fly apart over 350 or so hp. I cannot confirm this, but have also been told that the one you would want is from a 93 because some how and for some reason, those cranks are stronger than the others. This of course refers to the one that bolts up to the 1g/2g heads. Good luck!

Just for clarification, I was referring to the 2.4 out of a galant...etc...needing to be from a 93 model. As far as the 1g motors go, you can get a long block from a turbo or non turbo with the only real differences being that the oil galleries on the N/T head are slighty smaller, you need to swap to turbo pistons/rods, one cam is different so you need turbo cams, and you dont have oil squirters. I've had a n/t block with n/t head and just swapped to the turbo internals and cams and it ran like a top. Plus the N/T blocks are way easy to come up with. Good luck!

I don't believe the 6th gen galant (87-93) ever came with a 2.4 engine from the factory. The 94+ galants did have the 2.4 7 bolt option though. I thought that the N/T and turbo heads were exactly the same with the exception of some valvetrain parts. For the short blocks, the rods and crank are the same between the two engines, and the N/T engine will not be tapped in the back for a knock sensor as well as not having oil squirters, which you mentioned.

I have had pretty good luck with my 6 bolt 2.4 so far, but I am only putting down about 400awhp with it. We will see if it will be able to handle 460-480awhp once I get the twin disk in, but I have a feeling that much power won't even phase the engine.
