Turbo options
Ok, just looking for some suggestions here. I'll be saving some cash for my swap when I go to Iraq. So I'm hoping to make 300-400 hp. I have the stock turbo that came with the JDM 4g63. Believe it's a TD04. Jeremy told me it's the small turbo from the automatic car. I also have the stock turbo I was given with the 87 Starion parts. Want to say it's a TD05-12A. Actually pretty sure of it. Jeremy states the TD04 is small but wondering about the one off the Starion and if it's an improvement or not. If not, I'll be looking for a different turbo...especially since I have a very nice aftermarket exhaust manifold that is flanged for a t3 I believe.

i have a fp green on my daily and its great. minimal lag great power at low boost. and on the conquest i have a percision 50trim mitsu bolt on i forget the model but it spools fast pulls to 8k. evo3 16g is a little small for what you want on pump gas
88 conquest 4g63 now sporting a crankwalked boat anchor
Ok, I'll get to looking around. So the evo16g is small...but others are saying it's great. I'm planning to drive this truck! It won't be a weekend warrior or trailer queen by any means. But see some idiots running around here with their fast n furious Hondas and Donk cars with 350s, I just want the satisfaction of make them drop their jaws when I'm givin' the truck hell!
Dropping 1/4 mile times in NOT a direct function of how big your turbo is. There is such a thing as too big of a turbo. I've ridden in hondas with incredibly large turbos and you would be hard pressed to tell it was actually turbo until the last little-itty-bit of the rpm band. Yes, it pulls nicely once it's up there but you are limiting yourself to an incredibly isolated powerband which does nothing but piss you off if your driving around town because you can never get it in the powerband unless you actually drive it like you stole it...and that gets old after awhile.Johnboy72 wrote:Ok, I'll get to looking around. Besides, a 16g can make your normal EVO or DSM feel pretty damn fast with a nice range to play with. Just imagine taking 1000 lbs off its weight! You'll be fine.
And don't be hatin on the 350z's...that's my baby!
No, not the 350z. I mean the guys with the box style Chevy cars jacked up on 24+" rims. I have one soldier (with a Caprice with 350 V8) is the fastest thing around.
I do appreciate the info. I have alot to learn about all things DSM and turbo! I'm used to just slapping a cam, better exhaust and 4 bbl then calling it a day. I just want a bad ass little street truck that will give some of these jokers a little taste of their own medicine.
Is the T3/T4 too big for street applications? I've seen one on craigslist for $250.

No its not too big, however there are different trims for both the exhaust and compressor housings.Johnboy72 wrote:Is the T3/T4 too big for street applications? I've seen one on craigslist for $250.
I'd suggest learning how to read compressor maps. They seem complicated but once you break them down you can determine which trim and turbo will best fit "your" powerband,
