Raider Montero 4x4 5 speed Swap questions

I have a '88 2.6l 5 speed KM145 Raider that I am thinking of upgrading to a Starion / Conquest turbo engine I'd like to keep it a 5 speed truck. I know there are strength issues with the KM145 so I am investigating possible upgrade paths.

I know the Mazda B2600 '87 - '88 bellhousing will fit the Mitsu 2.6l, but what transmission should I be looking for?

My main interest is: The V5MT1 ('89 Montero V6) and ability to bolt up to the Mazda bellhousing and if the Transmission input shaft will be at the correct length to the crankshaft rear.

Secondary - What "other" transmission should I be looking for? Will anything stronger be able to take a tail shaft swap from either a KM145 or V5MT1 for transfercase adaptability? I have an extra of both available.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, I paged through many pages of very interesting posts last night here and didn't come up with anything.
