so ive got a 85 d50 4x4 auto with a g54b sitting out front with a fubared motor but the rest isnt too bad. the suckers even got a solid front axle which is spiffy.
basically i want to use my stock auto tranny, and have a pretty fun daily driver truck but nothin fast, stock turbo motor is fine for me. from what i gather ive got the wideblock and need to get a wide shortblock and slap a eclipse turbo head and everything else on to it to get it to work.

the info is all spinning in my head. which wideblock motor am i lookin for?
"The wide 4g63 comes in Japanese Starions (low compression turbo) and also in 87-up automatic pick ups .
*This is the same size bellhousing as a 2.6L"

theres only one 87 and up 2.0 auto d50 block listed on car-part.com, is that what im looking for?

thanks for any help

You first of all need to actually measure the width of the two lower bellhousing bolts before you know which pattern you have.

According to <a href='http://rebuilt.net/Mitsubishi_Engines.htm' target='_blank'>this</a> page, you may have either a narrow or wide pattern.

If the width is 12.25" across (narrow), then you should use the 6 bolt 4G63T engine out of a 89-92.5 DSM.

If the width is 13.25" across (wide), then you have a couple options. You can use the 2.0L 6 bolt G63B block found in 86-89 Auto trucks (you must measure these because they also come in narrow patterns) and use 4G63T pistons.

Or if you can't find that engine, you can use a 2.4L 6 bolt 4G64 (G64B) found in 90-92.5 trucks (as well as other RWD Mitsubishis) and use custom pistons to correct the compression ratio.

awesome, thanks for the info. after all the searching i did i couldn't come up with those two measurements :)

would it be the same as all 4x4 auto g64b's of that year? cause i dont have the motor out of this one yet, but there is one at the junk yard exactly like my truck thats already had its motor pulled and i can easily measure its tranny. eh i guess i'll get to pullin this one anyways but im more curious as i'll be back at the yard to pull a few parts off that beast before i pull this motor anyways

Are you talking about the wide 2.0L G63B? 86-87 Autos could be both narrow or wide for sure. It seems that 88-89 Autos would just be wide, but I would always measure to be sure.

im talkin use a wideblock 4g motor if my tranny is wide, otherwise go right for the 1g dsm 4g63 hopefully.
if i cant source 4g63 stuff cheap enough i might as well rebuild my motor and throw on a starquest mani/turbo and go for megasquirt. i would MUCH rather go with a bolt on stock motor for now though. if i blew my motor id have to rebuild the shit all over as opposed to finding any old dsm block at the junk yard

Just plan ahead and get that spare stuff put together before you blow the old one up. You'd just need to slide the internals of one motor into the other with some freshening up parts and stuff... bearings, gasket set, rings... hone. Dont want to throw in an oil burner with bad compression anyways, right? If I can put a 650hp capable longblock (w/ ARP, forged everything, HKS cams and all) for under $1500.. then you should be able to put narrow block 2.0 parts into a wideblock 2.0 and freshen it up.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
