7 Bolt Dohc Questions, L200 Project. Best head etc.

Post by pullmyleg »

Hi,

I currently have an 86 l200 Ute which i am starting to build a 4g64t for. I have found a 4g64 short block from a 98 l300 van.

I am presuming this block will be 7 bolt (am picking up on Friday).

I need help in deciding which head to use. I have found a VR4 head & and an evo 4 head.
Recommended head? Also any installation tips would be great as i have done research but am still not 100% sure that it is a good idea to run the 7bolt block setup?

What clutch should i use, considering i am using the standard 4g63 SOHC gearbox for now?

Looking at running to4e t3/t4 turbo, at least 600cc injectors, custom extractors, custom intake manifold etc. Looking for around 400+ HP.

Most probably have missed needed information, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am going to do rings and bearings on block before install.

Any one have any performance suggestions etc aswell would be great.

Thanks

VR4 head will NOT fit a 7 bolt They only fit 6 bolt I have just finished a VR4/GSR DOHC 16 VALVE Conversion on the 6 bolt gen 1 wideblock in my 85 JB Starion
The 7 bolt blocks do not have castings on the oil galleries for oil squirters ( i have one in my shed ) :(
6bolt gen 1 64's do :)
