4G64 narrow block VS 4g63 narrow block
I bought a 4G64 narrow block off E bay last week, its exactly the same bolt pattern as the second gen 4G63 narrow block and has a seven bolt crank, my bellhousings are direct bolt up
I didnt know that,
My point is, its not required to have a wide block to have a 2.4 4G64 and the advantage of that is the taller block will allow longer rods

You can have longer rods, but in stock form, they share the same rods as the 2.0L engines. The pistons are the difference in the two blocks. The 4G64 has a taller deck height and longer stroke crank. I know Magnus makes custom rods and pistons for the 4G64, but I don't know about anyone else.

I have to build the silver Starion I have DJ, I been BURIED in bellhousing work, I leave the house at 6:00 in the morning and get home at midnight!
I figure I better build a car like you guys are to understand the problems you have with engine mounts, shifter lengths and that CAS problem
I have been collecting flywheels and starters from 7 bolt to 6 bolt , from AWD to FWD and EVO's for all the stuff I am asked to do
the combinations seem endless

I want the longest rods I can get with the piston pin located high in the piston using a 2.0 crankjeffball610 wrote:You can have longer rods, but in stock form, they share the same rods as the 2.0L engines. is that what they do for a 2.1L de-stroke?Bill Hincher wrote:I want the longest rods I can get with the piston pin located high in the piston using a 2.0 crankjeffball610 wrote:You can have longer rods, but in stock form, they share the same rods as the 2.0L engines. It looks like Manley is the only long rod supplier I can find. They make a 162mm rod ($750 a set
). Here's a link to Magnus' site. Slowboy Racing also makes a 2.1L kit and piston rod combo. I'm sure there are others, but that's what I got on a quick search.

Both the 4G63 and 4G64 share the same 150mm length rods. The 162mm rods are aftermarket only and only used in 4G64 blocks with 4G63 cranks.AustinTSI wrote:The 4g64 has longer 150mm rods to go with the larger 100mm stroke of the 4g64 crank.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Yup
Remember that the 4G64 has a 6mm taller deck height to account for 1/2 of the 12mm increase in stroke (100mm - 88mm = 12mm).

Awesome. So I will pick up a 4G64 block and crank, use my 4G63 eagle rods. Replace my 4G63 CP pistons with 4G64 Forged Pistons and we are good to go
Awesome can't wait. I had no idea the rods were the same until last night. Now I am confident that I want to do the 2.4 over the 2.0 or 2.6. Should be a happy medium.
