Gearbox limitations
Hey all. I am just wondering what RWHP the standard 2.6 gearbox's start to fail at. Or if no one knows for sure, what is the highest HP that anyone has put through the boxes. Cheers.
The amount of power any gearbox can take seems to be a function of two seperate things.
1) Impact loading from clutch drops into a transmission with some slack where a lot of lash (i.e. slop) is present usually does the trick if you are wanting to break something.
2) If you treat the tranny well and 'preload' the tension so the driveline is taut and slack free, breakage usually will occure at a higher hp/torque level.
with that said, I have no idea what that particular tranny is capable of, but I think the general guidelines still hold true.
