Ok so after reading the site over pretty heavily for the last week or so I have noticed not many people asking questions about 2g parts. Is there a reason nobody is interested in them? All in all the parts we would need to do the swap are all the same for fitment and what not. They come with a cam sensor on the front. They have OBDII capabilities And for the most part the sensors would all fit in the wide block. The down fall is the block is narrow so you are still stuck having to find one of those.
The main difference that would effect any high hp numbers is that the ports in the head are smaller as is the turbo. But on the bright side there are far more of these to choose from in the salvage yards and general population that may have wrecked it blown a block up. They are less desireable in the dsm community for parts as some believe the 7 bolt block is weaker with the cradle and has a tendancy to crankwalk. But any car with a cluch has that possibilty. Especially when you lighten everything up and thrown in a high pressure clutch and drive it like a mad man.
Another plus is they are also offering DSM link for the 2g w/ Eprom now, Which is an amazing was to tune the ecm in these cars. Plus because they are more "mainstream" they have more parts availability from your local parts store. At this point you are also able to use the 2g MAS sensor Which flows alot better and also has more options for filters and what not. And there is the 3" gm Mas blow through option which is more readily available for a better price
So with all that said I hope its not a repeat as I have not noticed it anywhere. I do hope it helps some or most of you that are on a budget that would really like to see this through. If there is anything I left out I will add it later or you can feel free to add it also. Just threw this together off the top of my head. Its been about a year since I have owned a DSM. Or if you have any questions I might be able to answer throw em up here.

Re: 2g DSM parts swap info
I just purchased a 2G head with Web Cam 272's for my 6-bolt wideblock. Yards are asking too much for 2G wideblocks around me, so I went with a '90 shortblock for $100. I wanted the 2G head for port velocity, and also because I'm thinking about adapting an EVO VIII manifold, which has slightly different port geometry and starting w/ the 2G head is much more similar than the 1G. I'll let you know how it goes.
I plan on running a Vi-PEC management though, so I'll be doing some other business for cam triggering anyways (it'll only take one sync pulse for every one full engine cycle).

im actually buliding a 2g dsm motor...well, the motor is ready just working on the rest of the car. (it's a 2.3 stroker, fully built) it came out of a 95 gsx. i actually got lucky because it does have the cam sensor in the front but the block at some point was replaced with a 98+ split thrust bearing short block, which is less prone to crankwalk. it's not the design of the crank cradle but the one piece bearings that seem to be the problem. all newer 4gxx motors still have the same design cradles.
anyways, im actually documenting this entire build, including part numbers, prices, etc and very detailed pics. i was going to post up everything when i was done but i might just start posting everything up when i get back in town.
so the plan is 2g narrow block, 272 cams, r154 tranny with "bill"housing, evo VIII ecu (wiring is done), 3g/evoVIII MAF, evoVIII intake mani (modified by bill) and installing a OBDII port to log with evoscan.
still deciding on turbo but i've heard good thing about the new precision hp series turbos.
the goal is also to get the car BAR'd here in CA.

Very nice. I just havent noticed much going on and thought I would offer up what I have learned through the years. There is more.
I do love the PTE turbos. I am probably going to go with the 50 or 57 trim that I had on my Eclipse. That thing was a monster around town. In this car with less drivetrain loss and hopefully less weight than I pulled out before. The power to weight ratio should be fantastic. Plus its a bolt on which is a huge plus. I think they are offering an anti surge comp housing for them now to. Wasn't to bad but it gets kinda cold here and the air seems to be really dense. And with the manifold flipped it should clear just fine. I am hoping to fab up some type of ram air also. Is the scooped hood on the starion functional? It looks like it to me but I have never seen one.

I've already put my 2G bottom end into my Datsun 510. It does have a 1G head, but the 2G parts are definitely better. I'm running a 1G ECU and wiring. I think it's more simple than the OBD-II stuff and you can log knock unlike 2G stuff. The EVO ECU should be a great "upgrade" for your combo. I know of a few people running EVO ECUs in their DSMs.
I did not know about the split thrust bearing on the 98+ blocks. That will be something I will look into in the future if I rebuild this block. My most trusted DSM builder swears by the 7-bolt design. I also think it's a better solution, but 6-bolts are plentiful due to the non turbo applications and the "rumor" of crank walk.
People will run what they want and defend it with their own experiences. But I feel the 7-bolt stuff is great when proper preparation is taken.

Do it in a Datsun!

i know a few guys running an evo crank in the 2g block and its working out great nomore crankwalk.the one peice thrust bearings design works fine on a 6bolt. and 98 99 7 bolts crank walk too ive taken a few apart that have had it. honestly if you were gonna buld a 7bolt i would go with a 92-94 they seem to be the least problematic of all the dsm 7bolts and yes the crank trigger mounts are ther already just bolt on your 95 head and your good to go.
