MM water pipe

Post by Gentleman Rogue »

so i got the waterpipe from the carb'd 2.0l on my 4G63, and cant remember where both the hoses connect off of it. the one hose on the end goes up to the heater core i remember, but it looks like the hose that tee's off the waterpipe goes under the intake manifold, i would assume it normally would connect to the stock carb'd intake, but where should i hook it to now? the thermostat housing is relocated to the front, do i need to get a longer hose and run it up to the t-stat housing?

also, what have you guys done for running a coolant line to the turbo? i have the stock 4G63 waterpipe with the banjo type pipe coming off it, but im not sure how i should plumb coolant into it now- or even where i should get the coolant source from.

so whatd you guys do?

I used the truck water pipe and pump, one of the lines on the back of the engine will go to the heater core and the other would go to the turbo coolant, the other two corresponding lines came from the t-stat housing.

you looped that other rubber hose all the way back around the engine to the turbo? i would probably sooner just weld in the pipe and socket from the 4G63 pipe...

Yes, I looped it around the backside of the engine. If you are worried about the heat from the exhaust, you could run some ss braided hose through there.

not worried about the heat- just the clutter is all.

another thing im curious about- is the angle of the turbo- i swapped it 180 degress around, and now the oil drain is cocked up a bit(not straight down). is it really necessary to rotate it back down? will i need to to connect the turbo coolant lines?

its been coming painfully clear i am going to have to swap to an external wastegate, but if the turbo can stay at this angle, i think i could get away with running the internal one, at least for a while...

You may be able to get by with it, but it may affect oil draining properly out of the turbo. Other's have ran the 14b/16g turbos w/o the coolant lines hooked up, if you do this, be sure to let it cool off and idle after driving.
