tailshaft seal issues

im running the D50 tranny in my car for now and i cant seem to keep a tail shaft seal to keep the gear oil in the tranny for more than 20 min. ive replaced them 3 times and no dice.

my only suspicion (sp?) is the my engine and tranny is no longer on center and the yoke is riding one side of the seal. it does look square tho i havnt put it back up on jackstands to measure.

maybe iuts time for a solid tranny mount to match my motor mounts. Dj you were right. this is way too much trouble for a junk tranny. it makes more noise each time i drive it

the seal will constantly fail if the bushing centering the shaft is bad
the yoke can spin off center and tear up the new seal or the yoke itself could be grooved and wont hold a seal

it is a low milage unit 26k. i guess i could change the yoke it has some slight scoring nothing where the seal rides but i guess i could change it out.

what if the tranny and engine wasnt on center on the yoke was riding one side of the seal more than the other. do you think that would cause it to fail?

no i dont think the angle would matter, just a mismatch in size, make sure and measure the yoke outside diameter and the seals inside diameter ( assume nothing) and check your vent for the trans, make sure its not some internal pressure blowing the seal out
I had a 67 Pontiac do that to me years ago and it was abushing in the tailstock that was supposed to support the driveshaft yoke, the bushing had slipped forward and the yoke was bouncing out of round in the tailstock

well one good holeshot on some kinda sticky tires and well its making some interesting noises. i was only able to log 348 miles on this tranny and up until today i was running 10 psi and today i uped it to about 15. man that was alot of work for junk bah
