the reason i ask is because all 1st gen turbo dsms that i run into have cut up harness's when the non turbo's have the whole harness in tact.
thanks guys
non turbo dohc same as turbo dohc engine harness? (1st gen)

Not the same. Biggest differences are wires for the ignition coils and the knock sensor. I'm sure there is more, but those are the big ones.
You should not run a motor on the factory ECU without a knock sensor. I think it actually goes into limp mode without the sensor hooked up.
The injectors on the two motors have different resistances. The turbo motor requires a voltage resistor pack that lowers the 12V signal from the ECU to 6V. I believe that is correct. In any case, the turbo injectors run on 2-3ohms and the stock signal will kill them if the resistor pack is not there.
There is also a 7th wire for the air flow sensor. I don't think there are any other wires that have to be used (boost solenoid etc.), but the ones listed here are a must to operate on a turbo ECU. (which you will also need)

The turbo harness has a knock sensor input and one extra wire/input from the maf, and it has a plug for the injector resistor pack. You could use a non turbo harness and add these wires and wire in the resistor pack yourself if you are up to it.
fwiw, the ignition coil and transistor pack are the same between the na and turbo 4g63 of the same year.
