oil disptick

Post by S0LJAH »

hey guys just wondering what oil dipstick everyone is running for the twincams?
i filled my engine up with 5l of oil today(as oil cooler/lines etc are empty)
and before i even turned the engine over to prime it etc i checked the level and its only about 1/2 way between the two marks

is this due to the whole north south configuration and the angle the engine ends up being on?

question is what to do about it?
put more oil in?worried about oil starvation etc round corners, but also dont want to overfill it as theres obviously more oil sitting at the back than theres meant to be
remark dipstick?or use a rwd singlecam dipstick?

or when the car actually gets driven etc will it not matter as it will get splashed around etc?

yea damn southern hemisphere

i just used the vr4(transverse) oilpan and dipstick, car never had a rwd 4g in it so didnt even think of using one

am i best to change to a rwd oil pan and dipstick?just worried about where that oil is actually sitting in the sump etc

the dipstick problem i can get over as i can just mark the full point on it and keep it around that mark
its the sump im worried about

If you've got the correct amount of oil in the pan that THAT pan called for, then you're OK. and in my personnel opinion, it's better to be a quart low, than a quart high. Some fluctuation is designed in, buy having a high level can cause aeration of the fluid from the crank "whipping" it. That's a very bad thing.

yea oil amount is correct just under 5l and the engine was completely dry no oil in anything or oil cooler/lines, sump quantity is just shy of 4 litres correct?so 5 should be right to fill the cooler and lines

what have all you other guys done?surely sumone else has had this issue too?
sumone said the sohc rwd pan wont even fit without modification or fitting the sohc bearing caps as the dohc ones foul it

the sohc rwd pan will hit the main "girdle" on a dohc turbo engine. it will also hit arp studs on a non-turbo block.

i've got arp studs and the sohc rwd pan, a few whacks with a ball-peen clearanced everything real nice, I also made a windage tray and baffle for the pan from the insides of a late (2000's) 4g oil pan. has almost the same inside shape and dimensions.

since i'm using a sohc rwd oil pan, i got a new dipstick and tube for a mighty max with that engine combo. I'd just remark your current dipstick at the level that the correct amount of oil sits at, if I were in your place.
