flywheel bolt length?

Post by quest96 »

anyone have a stock quest 2.6 flywheel bolt they could measure the length from the inside of the head? I finished my 2.4 build and I used the 2.6 flywheel bolts with the 2.6 fidanza flywheel. I noticed the 2.4 bolts were shorter and I figured the 2.6 would be better because they were longer. I never checked if they were to long. any help would be greatly appeciated... Thanks....

the manual trans flywheel bolts are much longer then the Auto trans flexplate bolts shown here at the top of the pic

when you get into mix and match parts with the japanese manufacterers, you gotta remember thier mind set, if they can make a bolt shorter by 2 mm, that leaves 2mm worth of material to make the next bolt and at the end of the day, they may save a million bucks over a period of time.

that same approach takes place in cylinder wall thickness and crankshaft diameters, they make them just big enough and no more ( very little room for machine work)

And if nothing breaks, they make them out of less / smaller / cheaper on the next generation.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
