I've had a lumbar lambinectomy back in 93. Sounds about the same.
Took about 10 min just to roll over and get out of bed and then about 3 min to the toilet and then EXCRUCIATING pain to push a turd..
There is NOTHING like that pain.. Well maybe kidney stones.
People just don't understand until they go through it.
Also have bulged discs in C-5,6 and C-6,7 (upper back/lower neck)
So I loose feeling in my L hand at night sleeping. That's if I can get to sleep.
Kane, NEVER use heat. It may feel good for a short while but then you will be in more pain later. You'll do much better using ICE..
Heat causes swelling and ice makes oxygen rich blood rush in to 'heat up' the area causing better healing.. That's why it turns blue. Heat makes it bright red, just like a sunburn.
Believe me.. I've fallen asleep with ice packs under my back HUNDREDS of times. I've loaded bags in airplanes for 23+years and worked on my fam's sod farm for the first 21+.. I'm in pain most of the time somewhere on me.
(feet, shoulders, back, knees, and hands/wrists)
Ask your job if they have long term disability. It should kick in around 90 days.
I've got aflac that pays around 60% of your check.

Hey I forgot another thing.. Try and force yourself to drink more water or fluids. It's good at keeping the meds filtered out of the liver and kidneys..
I had been on Hydracodone (2/ 4hrs) and started poopin blood bad 'cause I wasn't hungry and just kept poppin pills to take the pain away and it was eating my insides out... (and then you have to 'go' more often afraid to look in the toilet)
It could mess up your natural enzimes and mess up your digestive tract.
If I can help any let me know..

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT..
I was picking up that 90 talon from my buds shop and it was going on the trailer TOO easy until it stopped, I reached quickly to grab the front fenderwell to help pull and think I dislocated my R elbow.. It felt like the radius or ulna came up and over my fore arm and then squished back in..
DANG i don't need this.. I'm right handed and can move the arm but the twisting of the wrist like using a screwdriver is a NO GO.. I've got to strip the rear assy out from it and haul the rest off TODAY (scrap metal shot up to 7.00/100lbs) or the 'association' might complain AGAIN..
I can't take anything either, I'm Mr. Mom for the next two days.
Happy Happy Joy Joy..
