the eye brows are the first to go, burning flesh has a terrible smell, especially when you cant get your fingers out of the way fast enough and you know you are burning  next is the ears , after you polute the crankcase with gas and you get a backfire, the valve cover blows off
Been there, done that, make sure and have a fire extingusher on hand when you are screwing around
dont get hurt, it aint worth it
Back fire happens when the fuel is ignited and the intake valve is still open
it can be cam timing, ignition timing or cross wired at the spark plug wires

i had a turbo 2 fc once. when i got it, it didn't like to start. i took the fuel line off to see if i was getting fuel. i had my brother (who can be quite impatient at times) turn the key on so i could see if i was getting fuel. it wasn't. she had an open in the fuel pump wire in the engine bay. so i found it and went to town soldering. meanwhile, my brother is sitting behind the wheel with no clue and thought he saw me signal to turn the key on....does anyone see where i'm going with this. he turned the key on at the exact same time i was pulling my hand and soldering iron from the engine bay. gas caught the iron....and a slight engine fire occured and i went from grizzly to sizzly. i had not a hair left on my face.

i no longer ask him to help me with cars
