Spacing exhaust manifold out with 1/2" steel flange

Post by ShaggyZ »

I have need to move the exhaust manifold out a little bit and would like some input on using a 1/2" steel (or stainless) flange from Road Race Engineering or someone else.

I intend to have a sandwich arrangement of two exhaust manifold gaskets :: manifold -> gasket -> flange -> gasket -> head.

Obviously, I'd need ~1/2" longer bolts/studs; but I'm curious about the different heat characteristics between the steel and the cast iron. I'm thinking as long as the manifold is torqued correctly, I shouldn't have any issues with warpage/leaking in the near future, but possibly eventually.

If you can bolt a cast iron exhaust manifold to an aluminum head, I don't think what you are doing is gonna be a problem.

when turbonetics first came out with their t3 cast manifold that was how it was mounted. the kit included the mani spacer and longer studs.
only thing you gotta worry about is snapping the longer studs easier
