Grrr.. Why did I ever get stuck with a 1990.. sure the air cooled oil cooler is nice and all, but I could have done that for $40 and probably done a nicer job.. now I'm stuck with a fucking 1990 ecu that is cooked (I think) and cant find any around here.. hell... any other 1G ECU would work, but NOOOOO.. I have to fucking buy switch coilpacks, tranistors, rewire things, etc etc if i want a later year's ECU to work in my 1990.
If you have the option, dont go with a 1990 DSM!!!!

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

I started building a 4G63 Quest around Dec. of 2003. I went through alot of the headaches that Mike did when I first started. Having to dig up information where I could and experiment the rest of the way. I'm not quite to the level where Mike is, but I've got my tranny complete and working on building the engine. I've got a pretty indepth knowledge on things concerning DSMs and the 4G63. That's further backed by my team and I also have a buddy whos equally deep into the Starquests.
Future plans include the 2.4L I'm building. I decided against the 2.0 since the build up costs were similar and the extra torque would be a much welcomed benefit. It made sense for the power and the only real reason the DSM guys dont do it is b/c of that power. To be more exact, the torque it's capable of producing. DSM trannies are weak in comparison to the Quest guts.
Anyways . . . sorry for the ramble. Late night at school and a never ending project. BTW the names Kevin!

PICS!
Kevin, one day I'm going to box these 2 piles of tranny parts up and send them down to you to rebuild for me. I just wanna see you run on yours first
. What about your website, I dont care if you're in school. Get that shit together... or at least gimme info and photos for hte member's cars section of the site.
THe next thing to buy for my car is a spare motor and tranny. I'm thinking of getting the 64 and building it up a tad. Nothing too fancy. Just something to put in when this thing goes. I'm thinking maybe a wideblock experiment. I dunno. I need to just find a good price for now and have a stock ongblock spare ready to throw in in a pinch.

DJ, Didn't see this on page 2..
What is the problem with the 90 DSM's
I have a 90 talon and will be doing the wire strip like Bill posted..
Now You got me worried. I did start to get the dash out of that 90 talon and the ECU did have writing on it like it was from a salvage yard..
Will it be better to look for another?
Can that Colt turbo stuff that I picked up just plug in it's place?
(Maybe that's why peeps are askin for the colt wiring??)
The wiring will be adapted into that civic race car, the chevy 406 will go into the uest, so everything will be made from scratch on the civic like mounting all the wires where I want sensors and relays n-such.
Back to the 90 DSM, Is it just 90's or late 89's and early 91's too?
(you know, how they "consider" it a 90 but was built in september or later in that year prior..)
Is there a serial # for the ones NOT to use?
Thanks E

This isn't such a big deal, guys.

For just a runner, swap pins 6 and 14. This is done on the DSM forums a lot.
I'll also throw out there that I've read the 91-94 ECUs are slightly better performance wise with more aggressive maps and such, but I cannot back that up as it was just a forum read years ago.

My main point when I posted this 4 years ago was that the sensors, wiring harness and plugs were all different as well. Different throttle body and sensors, different plugs for the CAS, different plug for the coils. Makes replacing parts much harder.
